Sharing your story doesn’t need to take long! You can provide as much or as little detail as you’re comfortable with. Many contributors share their stories in just a few sentences or a couple paragraphs. We edit all stories for clarity, word count and anonymity, so you don't have to worry about 'good writing' - just send us the details and we'll take it from there. 

We take anonymity and confidentiality very seriously. By submitting your story through our online form, you never have to share your name or contact information with us. Additionally, all stories are anonymized before publication. This includes removing or altering any identifying details about individuals, organizations, or locations, and sometimes generalizing the story if the details seem very specific (i.e. if we receive a submission that says 'the ED asked for a five month leave when her mother died' we'll edit it to read 'the ED requested a short-term leave for personal reasons').

The process is simple! Submit your story using our anonymous online form. You can share as much or as little details as you'd like. We read every submission, and aim to publish every story that we receive, however; we can't guarantee when your story will be shared - that depends on the volume of submissions and whether or not we've covered a similar theme recently. Because of the anonymous form, we won't be able to give you a heads up when your story gets published, but if you subscribe to our newsletter you'll be kept in the loop.

You don't need to worry about sending us you 'best writing'! All stories will be edited for clarity, word count, and to ensure anonymity, and we use standardized language for consistency (i.e. we'll change 'trustee' to 'board director' and 'president' to 'chair'). However, we work hard to retain the tone of your story and respect the details you provide. 

Once we receive your story, we’ll review it and decide if it’s a good fit for the column. If chosen, we’ll publish it with governance advice tailored to the situation. You’ll remain anonymous throughout the process.

Absolutely! If there’s a particular question or dilemma you want advice on, you can share a specific question instead of a story, or you can include it along with your story. This helps us focus the column’s response to address your concerns.
